Concerts
2009 was a busy year for Rhythm Instinct!
In February we put on our first student showcase at the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham and followed this up in November with one at The Cove Theatre in Chippenham.
Both concerts featured performances by around fifty students, playing Djembe and percussion in groups, and solo Drum Kit.
In February Jackson Lapes (Samba Sulis) ran a six week Djembe course at the studio in Chippenham focusing on Brazilian and African rhythms, the members of this group then performed in the show.
For the November show the amazing pianist Jason Rebello (Jeff Beck, Sting etc.) kindly volunteered his services working with a group of students for an afternoon, on some classic Jazz and Funk tracks at our rehearsal room. These were then performed live at the concert as a ‘grand finale’ to the show.
Also in November, following on from the formation of the African Drumming group in Chippenham, the groups members took part after six weeks of practice. The group still practises every Tuesday night at the Cause Arts Centre, Chippenham 7-8.30pm.
Well done to all the students who took part and a big thank you to all the friends and family who came along to show their support. A further thank you to the staff at both ‘The Pound’ and ‘The Cove’, Charlotte, Jim, James, Jackson and Jason for all of their help and support.
